Voice prototyping in Voiceflow

Before you check out one of these prototypes, some context on my thesis might help:

Why voice prototyping? ๐ŸŽค

I was curious about voice UX and wanted to try my hand at designing for voice! My honours thesis investigated the role of humour in designing voice assistants for human-computer interaction.

Part of my thesis involved an online experiment with 30 participants. These participants went through a short interaction session with a voice prototype.

I wanted to find out whether humour affects user satisfaction or how close the user feels with the voice assistant, and if it matters whether the voice assistant succeeds or fails in its tasks. (For more on my thesis, feel free to drop me a message.)

Tinkering with these prototypes expanded my understanding of prototyping for VUIs. In total, I built eight prototypes in Voiceflow corresponding to four experiment conditions โ€” look at one of them below!

In the experiment, participants engaged in simplified, one-on-one interactions with the voice prototype within a short time span and were instructed to complete 3 specific tasks. Try out these tasks when navigating the prototype. Or ask it to tell you a joke!
